How to clean the humidifier from scale

Humidifiers gradually began to be used in many homes. Over time, the product begins to work worse. Sometimes this is due to improper care. After all, the device is subject to the formation of scale, which is important to get rid of quickly.

What is scale and how does it form in a humidifier?

Scale is solid compartments. They appear on the surface of the product, in areas where water is heated. The device humidifies the air in the room by evaporating the liquid. Therefore, the use of water of poor quality becomes a common cause of plaque formation. It must be filtered. If you fill in the liquid of their tap that has not undergone special processing, this will lead to the formation of scale.

You can notice the beginning of the process by the appearance of a white shade. If this nuisance is not eliminated, the formation will harden and will harm the instrument more.

Attention! Not purified water can conceal some microorganisms, bacteria, which will negatively affect the air in the room.

Why is it necessary to remove scale?

Many do not look at the internal state of the humidifier until it breaks or begins to work worse. Although cleaning is recommended regularly. Ignoring scale will lead to additional problems:

  1. the spread of bacteria;
  2. water will start to bloom;
  3. mold formation;
  4. the appearance of chemical compounds that adversely affect health;
  5. decrease in equipment performance;
  6. reduction in product life.

Therefore, it is important to monitor the condition of the humidifier and regularly allow it to be cleaned.

Preparation for descaling

It is necessary to disconnect the equipment from the network and wait for some time. This will allow the device to cool. Remove the barrel where the water is and empty it. First you should clean the product from dirt and the upper layer of scale. Take a soft rag. Make a soap solution by mixing soap and water.

Important! Do not use detergents for bath or dishes. They contain aggressive components that adversely affect the operation of the device.

Wipe the reservoir with a rag to remove any deposits. For hard to reach places, use a soft-bristled toothbrush. Do everything carefully, without strong friction or pressure. The nozzle should also be wiped with a rag previously moistened in a solution of vinegar. Then rinse under the tap.

Descaling is worth using citric acid, vinegar or soda, which will react and make the coating softer. One of the selected components must be diluted with water until everything is completely dissolved. Pour the resulting fluid into the tank. For a liter of water you need a few tablespoons of soda or 100 g of citric acid. If you prefer vinegar, you will need it in a volume of 150 ml. Do not connect components. Together they will not be effective.

The equipment must be turned with the bow towards the window, which will allow the liquid to leave on the street. Pour the solution into the container and turn on the humidifier for no longer than an hour. The prepared mixture will corrode the plaque, and it will depart by itself. Carefully remove the remaining scale and flush the equipment several times until the smell is completely removed.

Attention! If this is an ultrasonic or mechanical model of the product, then it should not be included. It is necessary to fill it with a solution and leave it for 12 hours.

You can use lemon juice. However, it is able to cope only with fresh pollution. With a strong plaque, it is useless.

Descaling tips for the humidifier

Do not use hard rags or brushes to clean. They can damage the product. Often, the humidifier comes with special care products. But if not, use a soft cloth. Make sure that liquid does not penetrate the part of the body or the inside of the unit. This may cause the device to burn. All removable parts are important to dry thoroughly before installation.

Citric acid effectively copes with plaque and additionally disinfects the device. But if a fungus has formed or mold has appeared, then cotton, peroxide or bleach will be required. Abrasive materials will not work.

Limescale Prevention

Observe the following preventative measures:

  1. Regularly clean the appliance. Start the fight against plaque when its first signs appear. Do not aggravate the situation to the point that only chemicals can help you. The humidifier needs constant disinfection.
  2. Keep track of the quality of the water that is used. Only soft is suitable. Hard is rich in salts, which lead to the formation of scale. Therefore, try to use distilled water. In extreme cases, you can pass the liquid through the filter and leave it for a while so that it settles. Totally, he will not save the occurrence of such problems, but will reduce the formation of scale.
  3. Make sure that the liquid in the container does not stagnate. Otherwise, bacteria will multiply.
  4. Do not use the appliance at maximum power. When the air is sufficiently humidified, turn off the equipment.

These measures will help significantly reduce plaque formation. It is important to regularly take care of the humidifier and monitor its condition. Then it will last much longer.
