Shelves in the bathroom do-it-yourself

The shelf has long become an independent piece of furniture. Built-in, angular, mounted or floor-mounted - they are made of various materials, and their value and functionality can hardly be overestimated. The bathroom should be as comfortable as possible, and the shelves here are very important. Some models can be made with your own hands, while organically fitting them into the interior.

We are all accustomed to comfort, and try to equip our life in the most convenient way. Keeping a bathroom in order is not easy because of the many bottles, jars, vials with personal care products and household cleaning products. To make such an accessory yourself is quite realistic. A do-it-yourself bathroom shelf for a bathroom will have several advantages:

  • Ideal for the interior of the bathroom;
  • You can use the material you need;
  • You can choose any coating for your product;
  • will be the size and shape you need.

Before you get down to business, you need to decide on the design of the shelf, its size, and the material from which it will be made.

IMPORTANT! Before manufacturing, determine the location of its shelf in the bathroom. The functionality and usability of the product will depend on this.

To make a shelf with your own hands, you need to have not only the necessary set of tools and high-quality materials, but also the desire to make the bathroom more convenient and practical.

Shelves can be anything you like, it all depends on your taste and preferences, but in some cases the size of the bathroom limits the possibilities, and then the choice becomes obvious. In such cases, it is better to navigate in the types of shelves, and their areas of application.

Table: types of shelves

ViewHow to apply
RemovableSuch a shelf should be mounted on the wall, at any time it can be removed and hung in another place. A great option when remodeling or changing the interior of the bathroom.
HangingThe principle is the same as the removable one - it is mounted on the wall.
CornerSuitable for a small narrow room, where every centimeter of space is used rationally.
OutdoorSuch a shelf will find application in a large bathroom.
Stationary or built-inAs a rule, these are niches, or products that are not amenable to installation.
MountedShelf can visually reduce the space used in spacious rooms.

It must be remembered that the bathroom has high humidity, so you should choose the material that is suitable for the finished product to last more than one year, retaining its properties and purpose. Shelf for the bath can be made of such materials:

  • stainless steel;
  • glass;
  • plastic;
  • tree;
  • drywall.

Whatever material you choose, first of all, it must be of high quality, because it is better to do it once and for a long time, than to update the bathroom interior with shelves of dubious quality every year.

In most cases, the bathroom is small, so the shelf should be located so that it is convenient to reach the objects located on it. When you decide on its location, you will be able to think about the following questions, namely:

  • select the appropriate material;
  • outline the sequence of your actions, make a plan;
  • decide on the size of the future product;
  • Choose the appropriate hardware.

All the necessary materials and parts are on sale, so you can easily make a shelf that will meet all expectations.

IMPORTANT! Before starting work, make sure that you have all the necessary tools: drill, screwdriver, jigsaw, dowels, tape measure, ready-made fasteners and workpieces.

During the installation process, it is best to use a level and a marker. So you precisely fix a product horizontally evenly. Further we will consider the features of the manufacture and installation of shelves from various materials.

Glass shelf

Glass constructions look attractive and elegant. It is necessary to choose raw materials with a thickness of 5-6 mm, then the finished product will be not only beautiful, but also durable. Cut-to-size glass should be processed along the edges so as not to get injured during installation and further use. Before installation, fix the holders using a level. After these works, you can safely insert glass. If the bathroom has a niche made of drywall, and you want to insert glass into it, the procedure for performing the work will be the same. During installation, the thickness of the glass should be taken into account, brackets should be selected relative to this. They are of two types: without drilling, with drilling. To make the glass tight in the mount, and there is no danger of pricking, use rubber gaskets.

IMPORTANT! Consider the load when using a glass shelf. Do not litter it with foreign objects, or too heavy. Use the product for its intended purpose.

It is best to use decorative stops, so objects will not fall from the smooth surface of the glass.

Wooden bathtub corner shelf

A shelf located in the corner of the bathroom does not steal space, especially if it is already small. The material for such a product may be different, but many prefer wood, although you can use chipboard. The thickness of the source material must be at least 16 mm. The entire manufacturing process can be divided into paragraphs.

  1. Mark a point on a piece of paper, and draw a circle. This point should be the center. Radius choose the one you need. Drag the circle onto the previously prepared material. In order to cut a circle, you need a jigsaw. Using a square, divide the finished circle into 2 equal parts, divide the resulting halves into 2 more parts. Now you have 4 identical parts.
  2. Next, you need to make the grooves in the rail where you are going to mount the workpieces. To do this, install a wooden rail in the corner, mark the location of the upper and lower shelves. Divide the distance between them in half, to install the two middle shelves. Attach the shelf to the mark, outline it with a pencil on both sides, and make a cut in the rail. The depth of cut should be equal to half the rack. Do the same with the marks on the rail. Make sure that the shelf fits into the groove very tightly. On the wooden blanks themselves, it is also necessary to cut off the edges, but just a little bit. To do this, make notes with a pencil so as not to cut off excess material.
  3. If you do not want to make holes in the tile, you can fix the finished product using special mounting glue, for this you need to apply glue to the back of the rail. When the rail seizes, insert the shelves. It does not make sense to fasten the shelves, since they fit snugly in the grooves.

Creating a Plasterboard Shelf

One of the budget options - drywall construction. The manufacturing process is simple and quick. To make such a shelf, you need a CD and UD profile. Make a frame from the profile, fastening it with screws. It is necessary to sheathe the frame with drywall. The finished structure can be laid out with tiles, or mosaics. If the shelf is built-in - a niche, then glass is inserted into it.

Decorating a shelf for a bathroom, you should remember about high humidity. A wooden product is best covered with a self-adhesive film, it will keep the material in its original form, and the shelf will last for many years. There is no need for excessive decoration of a wooden product, because here the whole highlight is in simplicity and naturalness. Only at will, it is possible to cover a tree with paints and varnishes suitable in color to the interior of the bathroom.

IMPORTANT! To make the shelf organically fit into the interior, you should think over the decor elements and pick them up in the same style and color scheme.

The glass structure can be covered with a matte film, then the objects standing on it will not slip, or install a side of an unusual shape. As a decor, you can use the mount, with gold or silver.

A plasterboard shelf can be decorated with LED strip, lights or lamps, if it is in harmony with the overall interior. The niche can be laid out inside with tiles or mosaics, insert glass.

Decor options will depend entirely on your imagination and taste. The main thing is to find the best option that completely suits you.
