The walls, bottom and lid of the ottoman with a box that can be used to store things are cut out from chipboard or chipboard 16 mm thick. Upholstery can be made of eco-leather, fabric, leatherette, vinyl or other materials that fit into the style of the interior of the room.

In addition, it is necessary to prepare:

  • 4 things. furniture castors with screws;
  • 8 pcs metal corners and 8 screws;
  • 8 bars 380 mm long each with a section of 15-20 mm;

How to assemble a ottoman with your own hands

From the chipboard or chipboard we cut 6 squares measuring 400x400 mm, which will serve as the walls, lid and bottom of the product. We cut 4 bars 40 cm long each. On the two sides of each of them, carpentry glue is applied, with which the walls of the box are attached to the bars.

After the glue has dried on the outside of the wall, the screws are screwed to the bars and fastened with metal corners.

On the perimeter of the inner side of the bottom and on 4 surfaces of the bars joining with it, glue is applied and pressed. After the glue has dried, the bottom is attached with self-tapping screws.

IMPORTANTTo keep the upholstery from rubbing at sharp corners, several layers of padding polyester are glued to them.

Foam is glued to the outer surface of the lid.

The walls and cover are covered with upholstery fabric. Mount it with a stapler. To ensure that the brackets are well fixed at a distance of 2 cm from the top along the inner perimeter of the box and outside the perimeter of the bottom at the same distance from the edge, screws with a section of 15-20 mm are screwed on. The upholstery is attached to these bars.

The lid is connected to the box using two butt loops.

Furniture castors are screwed to the bottom.

Interesting ideas for creating ottoman

Budget options for ottomans are made from improvised means that have served their time or are quite inexpensive.

One option might bedo-it-yourself ottoman box from a car tiredone like this:

  • The tire pre-cleaned and washed with a brush is dried;
  • Cut 2 circles of plywood. The diameter of the bottom should match the diameter of the tire. The top circle of plywood should be smaller so that it can lie tight on the wheel rim. Such a pouf can be made of 2 wheels interconnected by bolts and without legs, or from one wheel, but with legs. The legs are sawn out of wood (or bought), used from old furniture (previously restored) or screwed on furniture rollers.

The next option ispouf with a do-it-yourself storage box from plastic bottles. You choose the shape yourself: square, rectangular, oval, depending on your preference. The scheme of work is as follows:

  • For the strength of the design of the bottle of the same shape and volume, it is advisable to set for 1-2 hours in the cold with the lids open. There, close the lids tightly, then bring them into the room and allow to warm up.
  • Place the bottles on an even horizontal surface, connect with tape 3-4 pieces (depending on the desired size and shape of the ottoman), then fasten with tape with one tape into the desired shape.
  • According to the shape and size of the resulting structure, cut the bottom and top out of plywood. Saw cuts along their edges. For the fortress, wrap the entire structure several times with twine through the notches.
  • Cut a rectangle of non-thick foam rubber with a width equal to the height of the bottle and a length equal to the perimeter of the product. Wrap the structure around the circumference with foam rubber and sew its vertical edges with a strong thread.
  • To the plywood fixed in the upper part of the product (where the bottle caps are located), use double-sided adhesive tape to stick 5-10 cm thick foam rubber pre-cut into the shape of the product and sew it with the same thread with the sidewall foam rubber.
  • To sew a cover, in the lower part of which to draw a drawstring with a cord. Put the cover on the ottoman, pull off the drawstring cord and tie it.

A ottoman from a bucket is made, having previously removed the handle from it.

The materials and operation scheme are similar to the previous version of the product from only one bucket. Lubricate the walls of the bucket with glue, wrap a rectangle of non-thick foam, sew. Cut the top and bottom from plywood or thick and strong cardboard (you can glue it in two layers). Attach them to the bucket using tape.

From the foam rubber cut a circle corresponding to the diameter of the upper part of the bucket. Sew it to the foam of the sidewall.

From fabric, leatherette, suede, faux fur or other suitable material, sew a drawstring cover and put it on the finished product. Tighten the drawstring and tie the cord.
