DIY do-it-yourself sand painting table

The modern sphere of needlework and creativity has a wide range of options. Among all the variety, sand painting has become very popular - an unusual and interesting type of painting.

For this creative process, you need a special table with lighting. In specialized stores, this design is quite overpriced.

You can make the necessary table yourself, using improvised materials. We will tell you how to make a light table for painting with your own hands.

Preparation for work

Before starting work, you should determine the manufacturing method and prepare the necessary materials. Then the process will be faster and more fun.

Materials and tools

For work you will need the following.

  • A small coffee table (with the finished box option).
  • 4 boards of the same size (with the option of self-construction of the box).
  • Glass of acrylic on the size of the surface for drawing.
  • Acrylic glass to fit the table.
  • Ruler.
  • Mounting knife.
  • Self-adhesive LED strip.
  • Cable for connecting light.

After the selected method and complete preparation, you can begin to work.

How to make a light table

To make a table suitable for painting with sand, there are two methods:

  • slightly transform an already prepared coffee table; or
  • make the right product yourself.

Redid a regular table in the light

To begin with, we will make the desired design from an already finished piece of furniture.

  • With a ruler and pencil make markings on the surface of the table. It should fit the size of acrylic glass.
  • Using a mounting knife, carefully cut a hole under the glass. Many tables contain additional filling, so it must be removed.

Attention: Use a knife with sharp blades. This will help in high-quality and accurate work.

  • At the corners of the table are legs the corners of which need to be slightly trimmedb. These holes will serve as a stand for glass and help place it at the level of the countertop.
  • After determining the angles, you can start painting. The bottom and sides of the furniture must be treated with white paint. It helps to improve brightness and light distribution during operation.

After a few simple manipulations, the sand table is ready. The final step will be the installation of lighting.

Do it yourself

You can also make a suitable surface for drawing yourself.

To work, you need four boards, the width of which is about 10 centimeters. This volume is quite deep and small at the same time, suitable for work.

  • Using bolts and a screwdriver we fasten the corners of the boards. The box model is a square or rectangle, the specific choice depends on the personal preferences of the owner.

Important: boards should be planed in advance.

  • Then you can make an additional compartment for storing sand. For work, two slats of the same width and length will be required. Having departed from the edges the same number of centimeters, we put down marks. We fix the straps inside the box. Additional compartment is ready.
  • The next step is the hole for the placement of glass. We measure the exact parameters of the material, put labels on the bottom of the box. Remember that an additional centimeter should be left on all sides, which will serve as a support for the acrylic material. When the marks are set, we cut out an unnecessary block of wood. In the finished hole we place acrylic glass.

The box for creativity is ready. On the sides of the bottom you can place legs to get a full table.

Making the backlight

An important element in the artistic process is light. The final work depends on the correct arrival of rays, lighting and brightness.. To install the lighting, you need a self-adhesive LED strip, a special power supply so that the tape can be connected to a conventional outlet, and a plug.

First fix the location of the plugwhich the tape is connected to. To do this, a hole is drilled in the corner, the tape wires are threaded in and attached to the plug.

The tape itself is glued directly to the glass. Gradually, observing accuracy, we stick an LED strip with a snake.

At the end of the process place the glass with the ribbon inside, connect the material to the outlet. The backlight is ready, you can start creative work.

Reference: The approximate consumption of LED strip is 5 meters. The length may vary depending on the width of the acrylic glass.

Useful Tips

A few additional recommendations will help in the proper work of making a sand drawing table.

  • The process of tape gluing is recommended to start from the end, i.e. from the location of the plug. When working, you may encounter a lack of material. In this case, the plug will have to be replaced by placing it in a different corner.
  • Many users note that they installed additional lighting. To do this, fit lamps or lanterns located under the table.
  • When choosing a tape, it is recommended to stay on a white cold shade. On perception, it is more vivid.
  • At the bends and corners, the tape can be glued with double-sided tape. This will help in a more secure fit.
  • The surface of the wooden box can be decorated with bright decor: stickers, stripes or drawings. Engaging in such a table will be much more fun for the child.
  • Glass should have a frosted surface.. If there is no such glass, you can solve the problem using paper glued to the wrong side of the glass using ordinary electrical tape.

The development of creative skills in each person opens up new abilities and skills, regardless of age. One of the most fascinating and uninteresting art processes is sand painting on glass. We hope that with the help of our tips it will be easy to make a table for drawing yourself.
