The difference between household linoleum and commercial

Today, despite a wide range of different floor coverings, linoleum is still one of the most popular materials. This is due to the low cost and fairly simple installation technology. This type of material is laid in residential apartments and houses, shops and even industrial premises. However, it is necessary to distinguish between types of household and commercial linoleum, which have various fields of application.

Differences between household and commercial linoleum

Today in the market of building and finishing materials you can find two types of material:

  • domestic;
  • commercial.

The household variety is most often used only in residential premises or in offices where there is a small passability during the day. For large rooms where a huge number of visitors pass every day, commercial types of canvas should be used.

This is due to the increased wear resistance and density of the material. Commercial was originally intended for rooms where the load on it will be maximum. Manufacturers create an improved, most durable, able to withstand heavy loads web.

Important! Before buying linoleum, you should evaluate the future load on the flooring and not save on the purchase of expensive commercial material if it is planned to lay in a room with a lot of daily traffic.

Characteristics of household

As the name implies, household is used exclusively in everyday life. It has an attractive low price and a variety of colors and textures, but is not intended for large daily loads.

This type of coating has a number of advantages:

  • economical (among different types of floor coverings, this is the most budgetary option for decorating a living room);
  • simplicity in leaving (after installation it is easily washed with use of usual and available means);
  • a large selection (in the salons of finishing materials you can find a wide selection of palette and texture of linoleum);
  • it is convenient in transportation (due to its elasticity, it is easily twisted into a roll and transported from place to place);
  • has good thermal insulation (with an additional substrate it perfectly insulates the floor);
  • moisture resistance (easy to clean, does not allow moisture to pass on both sides).

Due to its structure, it not only retains heat and does not allow moisture to pass through, but is also able to absorb sound vibrations. This makes moving around the room comfortable and convenient. The protective coating applied to the front side allows you to keep the coating in its original form for a long time, if you carefully and accurately care for it daily.

Commercial Characteristics

Industrial linoleum can be laid in residential or commercial premises. Typically, this type of coverage is selected for rooms with high daily traffic. It has a number of undoubted advantages over other types of linoleum:

  • increased wear resistance (originally intended for severe loads on the floor, therefore, has increased strength);
  • anti-slip function (usually covered with a special layer that provides safety when walking);
  • a variety of drawings (thanks to a wide selection of ornaments, even the largest rooms can be easily zoned).

Important! Industrial linoleum can also be laid in living rooms, but this is irrational from a financial point of view. Choosing this option is better if a large number of people pass in the room daily.

At the same time, commercial linoleum is a rather expensive type of coating. It will last at least 25 years and will slowly wear out, without scaring the visitors of the room with impartial thinning and lost ornamentation spots. The drawing is applied across the entire depth of the roll, so it will be erased gradually and imperceptibly to others. This is the most profitable flooring option for medical facilities, school classes, offices and other commercial premises.
