I connected the monitor through the hdmi cable, the sound disappeared

An HDMI cable is a digital device interconnect designed to transmit high-quality multimedia data with copy protection. Since 2002, this device has been developing to this day, improving its bandwidth and adding support for new displays. The current version at the time of 2019: HDMI 2.1, supports all resolutions up to and including 10K100. What to do if after connecting through the cable to the monitor the sound disappears

Why may the sound disappear when connected to a TV

Loss of sound when connecting an HDMI cable to a TV is a fairly common problem, it is associated more with the inability to handle equipment than with cable problems. The standard situation is this: this cable does not conduct sound when a laptop and computer are connected to the TV, but it appears on primary media.

ATTENTION: The cause of the problem in most of these cases is simply a low volume level on the device. The volume currently configured can be viewed in the computer mixer or in the TV settings. Perhaps someone accidentally turned on silent mode, as these buttons are usually located on the monitor body.

The reason may lie in the banal lack of the necessary software, in other words, drivers for the required cable or TV monitor on the donor device.

REFERENCE! Also, an error may occur due to the fact that the computer is "not ready" to transmit sound, and you need to point it to a suitable device after it has connected the output manually in the properties. Read how to get rid of these problems below.

How to get rid of a problem

The problem of the lack of sound when connecting an HDMI cable is not as difficult to solve as it seems. To do this, you need:

  1. Customize audio output. In the southwestern corner of the screen, the horn icon is visible - these are the properties of sound. You need to hover over it and press the right button - a menu will appear where you should select the item "Playback devices". A window pops up with a list of available outputs for sound. It remains only to find the item in the text of which appears "High Resolution Definition Audio", or simply "HDMI", on this item, click RMB and select "Use Default", then close the menu by pressing OK.
  2. Install drivers. To access the drivers window, you need to press the key combination "Windows + R" (the Windows key is a button with a flag in the lower left corner of the keyboard) and enter "devmgmt.msc" in the opened line. A window will open where you should select the "Sound Devices" list and try to find the item containing "HDMI". If it is there, then you need to enable the driver by right-clicking on the desired item and selecting the appropriate solution in the menu. If this is not observed in the list, then for some reason the drivers for the cable were not installed, and you need to download it yourself from the manufacturer's website of the video card (these are AMD, NVIDIA or Intel).
  3. Sound may also be lost due to the use of adapters or adapters. In this situation, nothing can be done, just replace the adapter and try another.
